Lions Club donates to 26 local organizations

One of the Wimberley Lions Club’s favorite things to do is to give away money, so there were many happy members and grant recipients at the most recent meeting. Twenty-six nonprofit organizations were awarded monies to assist each with their unique missions in the Wimberley community. Lions Club First Vice-President, Amy Cox, who will be WLC President next year, was the emcee for the special event.

Just a few of the grantees and their use of funds are listed here. Barnabas Connection will buy backpacks and school supplies for the Back-to-School Fiesta and stock their Christmas Store. Medical Explorer Omega, LEO Club, will purchase a portable defibrillator. Freedom Canines, training puppies to be service dogs, will use their grant for a firstyear, standard pet care for one dog, including spay/ neuter, shots and hip x-rays. Meals on Wheels Rural Capital Area will help to serve 400 elderly in the Wimberley area. The Wimberley Water Advisory Group will use their grant to offset the expenses of testing the waters of the Blanco River and Cypress Creek during the year. Wimberley EMS will buy a new stretcher. And, Wimberley Gold Santa will be able to provide toys and aid to children in need, in the Wimberley area during the holidays.
