King Feed strong

Following a fire that destroyed the interior of King Feed last week, the community has linked arms to support Wimberley’s iconic business.

On February 1, KWVH 94.3, will host a live broadcast from Blanco Brew during the Wimberley Wake up Club morning show with Jared Robinson from 7 to 9 a.m. to build awareness for Blanco Brew’s fundraiser on Sunday, February 4. The fundraiser, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., will include live music, a car show, a silent auction and a King Feed donation station to collect money for the stricken business. Blanco Brew is located at 14200 RR12, adjacent to King Feed.

Ozona Bank is taking donations for a King Feed Employees Fund. Barnabas Connection will facilitate dispersing the donations and has added a link on their website to also collect donations to the Employees Fund. King Feed employees will visit with Barnabas Case Managers to arrange to receive funds to pay for necessities such as rent, car payments, insurance, utilities and cellphones.

Barnabas Connection posted a statement on their website that read, “We have had many of you reach out and ask how you can help our friends at King Feed. We spoke to the owners and their greatest concern at this time is supporting their employees so that they do not miss any pay. They have asked that we help them in the interim until they are back open. If you would like to make a donation, you can do that by donating to our Emergency Relief Fund on our website and putting “King Feed Employees” in the reference section. We will let you know if we hear of any additional needs from the King Feed owners. To donate go to https://secure. affinipay.com/pages/ barnabasconnects/payments.”

Barnabas also advised employees who are in immediate need of food to visit the Crisis Bread Basket or Amigos de Jesus’ “Mercado.” Crisis Bread Basket is located at 14092 RR12 and is open Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Thursday from 3 to 4 p.m. Donations of food can be made Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. and by appointment by dialing 512 847-5323. Amigos de Jesus operates a food market called the “Mercado” on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Mercado is located at 100 Melody Way.

In a Facebook video message from the King Feed location in Canyon Lake, the community is asked to shop their inventory to help with immediate cash flow needs.

An additional fundraiser is being planned at Old Glory Ranch on Sunday, February 18 from 3 to 8 p.m. Musicians and vendors will be donating their talent and food for the live music event. All proceeds will go directly to King Feed. The money raised will help King Feed restock so that the community can purchase Farm and Ranch supplies while the rebuilding of King Feed is completed.
