July declared Parks and Recreation Month

The Wimberley City Council has proclaimed July as Parks and Recreation Month, following its meeting last week.

The proclamation took place at the regular meeting on Wednesday, July 6. Members of Wimberley’s Parks and Recreation department were acknowledged in coordination with the parks recognition.

“Parks and recreational spaces play an essential role in enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike, providing opportunities for leisure, physical activity, social interaction, and environmental appreciation,” the proclamation stated. “The City of Wimberley, nestled amidst the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country, is blessed with an array of picturesque parks, trails, and recreational facilities that showcase the city’s commitment to preserving and promoting outdoor spaces for the enjoyment and well-being of its community.”

July was first nationally recognized as Parks and Recreation Month by the US House of Representatives in 2009.

The park system inventory in Wimberley includes Blue Hole Regional Park, Cypress Creek Nature Trail and Preserve, Martha Knies Community Park, Oak Park and Welcome Center, Old Baldy Park and the Patsy Glenn Refuge.
