Jarosz receives ninth Grammy nomination

Sarah Jarosz was nominated for her 8th and 9th Grammy Awards last week, one of which was for her new song “Hometown.”

She has been nominated for Best Americana Album for her newly released album ‘World On The Ground’ and for Best American Roots Song for ‘Hometown.’

“Holy smokes!” Jarosz posted on Facebook after the nominations were announced. “… Just found out I received TWO GRAMMY nominations... So proud of this album and incredibly grateful to have had the chance to make it with my hero and friend John Leventhal.”

Leventhal produced her newest album and has won six Grammy Awards himself.

Much of the album is focused on experiences related to Jarosz growing up in small town Texas.

“Part of why I chose to write about Wimberley and the Hill Country and Central Texas at this time is because I really do think it took leaving to have a deep appreciation,” Jarosz said in an article that was featured on the cover of the Austin American-Stateman’s Austin 360 magazine. “That being said, I am very fortunate in so many ways. I loved my childhood when I was there; it wasn’t that I couldn’t wait to get out. It was positive as it was going on. My wanting to escape and wanting to go to New York was kind of just normal adolescent feelings. I was feeling, as a 17-year-old, ‘OK, this is very small; I would like to leave now.’ It takes distance and time sometimes to be able to truly appreciate things.

“Because I have been fortunate to travel around the world with my music, I’ve realized how unique Wimberley and Austin and Central Texas are. So much of it for me is the landscape: the rolling hills, the creeks, the rivers. I had such a fondness for that river culture as a kid — the feeling of jumping off a rope swing into Blue Hole. Not every kid gets to grow up with that, and I do not take it for granted. If anything, I’m more thankful for it now than ever before.”

Jarosz won her third Grammy Award at the beginning of 2020, and at the age of 29, now has nine Grammy Award nominations. Her first nomination came when she was 18 years old just six months after she graduated from high school.

The music video for ‘Hometown’ was filmed in Wimberley with scenes from Wimberley Market Days, Texan Stadium and plenty of shots along the waterways of Wimberley. To see the video and learn more about Jarosz’s current projects, visit www. sarahjarosz.com.

The 63rd Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, January 31, 2021.
