Indie pop rock band opens Players’ outdoor series

Nostalgia-inducing indie alt-pop band Goons, composed of power songwriting couple Cole and Sydney Burris, will open the Wimberley Players 2023 outdoor series of concerts and movies next month.

The performance will take place on Saturday, June 3 at 8:30 p.m. Drawing from all your favorite ‘80s sounds, this pair creates a unique, lively, music experience for audiences both young and reminiscing.

Cole said he grew up listening to bands like The Cars, Journey and Duran Duran and draws from their respective sounds. Conversely, lead singer Sydney said she was primarily influenced by ‘80s artists like Sheena Easton, ABBA and Queen. The screaming electric guitar solos, hooky synth riffs and bass lines (provided by William Barksdale) make for a unique retro sound, taking their audiences back to the ‘80s with a modern flare.

The Players’ outdoor concert series will take place throughout the summer on Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. Reserved seating for each is $12, including all fees. Concerts are appropriate for all ages.

Tickets are available online at wimberleyplayers. org or by calling (512) 847-0575.

The Wimberley Playhouse is located on 450 Old Kyle Road in Wimberley.
