Howl at the Moon, turn out the lights

It wasn’t just another small town Sunday night this weekend. If you listened closely, you might have heard some howling at the moon in the Wimberley Valley at Blue Hole Regional Park.

However it wasn’t a pack of coyotes or even wolves, but Wimberley residents doing their best impressions of said creatures.

The Wimberley Valley Dark Skies Community and Blue Hole Regional Park teamed up once again to put on the Howl at the Moon dance party that was held at the soccer fields at the park.

Greg Webb, part of the committee of the Wimberley Valley Dark Sky Committee, said hosting this event is part of the Hill Country Dark Skies month, which is held in October.

“It is Hill Country Dark Skies month,” Webb said. “So they challenge all the communities to do something. We were in a meeting, and we decided to do a moon dance… We are trying to think of fun things to do, and the community is so supportive. What a fun thing to do, which is to dance under a full moon.”

Guests were able to dance under a literally pale moon light and while also enjoying snacks and beverages.

The highlight of the evening was participating in howling at the full moon.
