Hill Country Community Band performs ’Faraway Places’
The Hill Country Community Band gathered at the First Baptist Church of Wimberley as they performed Faraway Places “More Music with an International Flavor.”
Directed by Dr. Manuel Arambula, the Hill Country Community Band performed seven different musical pieces from ranging from the “Zacatecas” Mexican March by Genaro Codina, “Variations on a Korean Folk Song” by John Barnes Chance, “Amparito Roca” Spanish March by Jaime Texidor, “March of the Belgian Parachutists” by Pierre Leemans, “Mannin Veen (Dear Isle of Man) by Haydn Wood, “Old Scottish Melody (Auld Lang Syne)” setting by Charles A. Wiley, and “Homeward Bound March” by John Phillip Sousa.
The Hill Country Community Band was also joined by Piccolo Soloist Luellynn Dollard who performed the solo piece of “Fantaisie Brillante sur Carmen” by Francois Borne.
Dollard was a member of the US Navy Band in Washington DC for 21 years, and performed as a soloist on six national tours. Retiring to Driftwood in 2014, Dollard currently plays in the Austin Flute Choir and as a sub with the Austin Symphony Orchestra.
The Hill Country Community Band returns on Independence Day for their next performance only with the Wimberley Community Chorus.
