Hays County to introduce COVID-19 Vaccine Pre-Registration by phone

After launching its online COVID-19 pre-registration portal, Hays County residents will soon be able to pre-register by phone.

Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra announced during his weekly Facebook live address that residents will be able to call 833-521- 2766 to pre-register for a COVID-19 vaccine. Becerra said the first opportunity for residents to use the phone service will be Feb. 17-18 between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.

“That will be the very first opportunity you have to get phone help,” Becerra said. “The portal that we have to receive your registration through the internet is working beautifully, has been since we opened it and it continues to receive anyone’s efforts to pre-register for the vaccines. Let’s do our very best to leave this phone number exclusively for those who need help, have a language barrier or inability to reach the internet. This phone number is for you.”

Following the first two days of phone registration, the listed number will be to regularly available from Tuesday through Thursday, 12 p.m.-4 p.m.

With hazardous weather expected Monday, Becerra said the county’s vaccine clinic at San Marcos High School for those requiring a second dose is postponed until Wednesday. Appointment times will remain the same as they would have Monday, only the date is changing. Additionally, if someone who is needing a second dose won’t be able to attend an appointment Wednesday, they will be able to reschedule on either Feb. 22 or Feb. 23 at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center in Kyle, Becerra said. Booster shots will take place at the Hays CISD PAC on Feb. 22-23.

Becerra also announced that next week’s COVID-19 vaccine clinic for those receiving their first dose will take place in Dripping Springs on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23.

Residents eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine continue to be in the Texas Department of State Health Service’s 1A and 1B groups. Those in the 1A group consist of front-line healthcare workers and residents at long-term care facilities, while those in the 1B group are people 65-and-older or people 16-and-older with a health condition that increases risk of severe COVID‑19 illness. According to the DSHS, 19,655 Hays County residents have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 6,066 residents are considered fully vaccinated as of Friday. The DSHS estimates that there is an estimated population of 183,380 county residents who are 16 years or older.
