Hays County Constable Precinct 3

Helm announces for reelection

Hays County Precinct 3 Constable Ray Helm has announced that he will be running for reelection in November of 2020 as a Republican. The primary election will be held on March 3, 2020.

Constable Helm was elected to serve from 2017 through 2020.

“I have been in the Wimberley Valley most of my life and have worked here as your Deputy Constable for Darrell Ayres since 2007,” Helm said in a press release. “I was a Deputy Constable in San Marcos... I am a native Texan and a 3rd Generation Hays County resident. As education for this office I have been well trained and have over 5500 hours of Training through the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement. With over 16 years of experience in a Constable’s Office.”

Helm noted that he has at least 13 certifications and credentials related to the office.

Helm graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1971 and Constable Leadership College in 2012 with degrees in Criminal Justice, Corrections and a Field of Study in Criminal Justice with a Law Enforcement Certificate.

“Education is what it takes to run this office on a management level and maintain an active response time for the community,” Helm said. “…Since my time here I have been able to help negotiate interlocal agreements with the City of Wimberley, City of Woodcreek and Wimberley Independent School District. With doing that we are not your typical Constable Office that just serves papers. We have an active role as serving as the police department for two cities.”

Helm touted that the Precinct 3 office is the only Constable’s office that runs seven days a week as well as his office’s work during the floods and initiating a program to help manage school traffic.

“There are several things I have learned from being a deputy and now the Constable is that the citizens expect results,” Helm said. “This probably the most demanding area of Hays County. When they call me I have always answered and always will, I have an open door policy. This will never change and I have proven that. This job is not a Monday through Friday detail. Judge Andrew Cable told me after I was sworn in ‘Welcome to my world Young Constable, You are now 24/7 just like me’ …I am not off, there are no such things as days off, no vacations, and no such words as I can’t or No exist in my vocabulary.”

Helm also said that he strives to be involved and available for the community.

“You also have to be well liked and known to do this job here in the Wimberley Valley to gain this type of community involvement and trust,” Helm said. “I have strived to be the best Constable that the Wimberley Valley has had and want to continue to be here. The Constable is in fact the People’s Peace Officer. I have given my whole life to the dedication to serve the people of Precinct 3.”
