    CHRYS GRUMMERT

Grummert appointed to Woodcreek City Council

Chrys Grummert was appointed to the Woodcreek City Council with a 3-1 vote to fill the vacancy created when Jeff Rasco was elected as mayor with a year remaining on his city council term.

“Aside from one other candidate, he has lived here the longest,” Councilmember Debra Hines stated when speaking in favor of Grummert’s nomination. “He has a great breadth of knowledge of the history of Woodcreek… He has received significant votes in the past. 432 is not a small number of citizens supporting him. He is a very active and informed citizen.”

Grummert was one of six applicants for the position. The position fills Rasco’s unexpired term, which will last for one year before it will be up for election. Councilmember Judy Brizendine was the only dissenting vote.

The city also recognized the service of former Mayor Gloria Whitehead and former Councilmember Bob Hambrick.

The fully seated new council unanimously approved Aurora LeBrun to continue in her role as Mayor Pro Tem.

The city voted 3-1 in fa vor of donating $5,000 to the Wimberley Village Library’s expansion fund with Brizendine dissenting.

Multiple hot-button issues were discussed during the meeting with no action taken. The council is considering whether or not to continue a contract with the Hays County Constable’s Office for additional law enforcement presence in the city.

Councilmember Brent Pulley asked if the constable’s office could increase the use of officers using radar to enforce the speed limit. Montague indicated that they could, but also stated that the city might consider hiring a peace officer itself instead.

“With the amount of money you are paying us, we would probably continue, based on our entire area, to serve Woodcreek the same way we are doing right now,” Hays County Constable Don Montague said. “(You could) choose to take these funds and hire somebody that you have direct supervision over.”

No action was taken on the current contract with the constables. Following executive session, the council tabled action on the lawsuit by Pulley versus now former Mayor of Woodcreek Gloria Whitehead and the city. Action was also tabled on a resolution on adopting rules and procedures for meetings and a discussion was held on a potential change in zoning classification for Brookmeadow that could make the minimum lot size for new development one acre in certain areas.

Councilmember Debra Hines released a written summary of the entire meeting, which has been placed on the city’s website. To review the release, visit woodcreektx.gov/news.
