Former Hays County Judge Bert Cobb dies

Albert H. Cobb Jr. known to many as Dr. Bert Cobb, was called to rest with his wife by his side, on August 4, 2021 by our Lord and Savior, at the age of 75. Bert was born January 1, 1946 to father Albert H Cobb Sr. and mother Virginia Ruth Fowler Cobb. He is preceded in death by his parents and son Shane B Cobb.

Graduating from Texas A&M University, Class of 1968, Bert continued his education at the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio, where he graduated in 1972 and served his residency. Upon becoming a Board-Certified physician in Ear, Nose and Throat medicine, he went on to serve our military and great country by joining the Air Force.

Dr. Albert H. Cobb started his practice in July of 1979 in San Marcos, Texas. Becoming an allergist in our area, he served and provided relief for many citizens of San Marcos and the surrounding communities for over 30 years.

Being a man of many hats, Dr. Bert Cobb would become known as Judge Bert Cobb, M.D. Elected by the citizens of Hays County in 2010, he served Hays County for 2 terms before retiring in 2018 due to health reasons. During his terms, he would garner many achievements. He oversaw the implementation of numerous road projects, expansion of medical services to un- and under-insured residents through an agreement with Live Oak Health Partners, and a return of federal dollars to local hospitals for indigent care through what is known as a “1115 Waiver Program.” He supervised our flood remediations as well as implemented video magistration, to streamline the entry into the legal/justice system.

The Honorable Judge Cobb was a man of many interests. Outside of medicine and holding the top seat of Hays County, Bert started a crawfish farm, became a Texas Master Gardener and Texas Master Naturalist, was involved in High School Rodeo, taught concealed handgun classes and even sang in the church choir. Considered a very intelligent man, a very brilliant man, however he was never short on telling you how he felt. Viewed as a man of church, a man of faith he was a founding member of a local prayer group that still meets today. For 12 years he wrote a weekly devotional based on the Sunday Lectionary readings.

The Honorable Judge Cobb is survived by wife of 55 years, Gaye Sue Goforth Cobb, son Jon Chevis Cobb, grandchildren Jon David Cobb, Claire Elizabeth Cobb, Chevis William Cobb, Coen Ambrose Cobb and Issac Paul Cobb.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Tuesday August 10th 2:00 PM at Pennington Funeral Home.
