Food bank expands local options
Hays County Food Bank is excited to announce its partnership with Cypress Creek Church in Wimberley. According to 2020 census data, the city of Wimberley has a 12% poverty rate. When the surrounding Wimberley Valley community is included, that poverty rate jumps. Nearly 30% of students that attend Wimberley ISD are considered economically disadvantaged.
HCFB and Cypress Creek Church will provide food at no cost to those in need at scheduled drive-thru distributions. All attendees should have an empty trunk before arriving at a distribution. Clients will receive a variety of fresh produce, proteins, baked goods, and pantry items.
In order to qualify for food assistance, households must meet one of the following:
• Have a household income at or below the 185% of the Federal Poverty Level,
• Participate in one of the eligible government assistance programs like the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
• Have a temporary food emergency
The deliveries are scheduled for Oct. 6, Oct. 20, Nov. 3 and Dec. 1 from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
HCFB and Cypress Creek Church encourage attendees to pre-register. While it is not required, it does help with the flow of the distribution. You can pre-register before an event at www. feedingwimberley.org. You can also find more food assistance opportunities in Wimberley through this website.
