The first day of school

To the children and teachers, the first day back is a mix of a lot of emotions, such as glad to be back, fear of the unknown, stress of something new, and new experiences to be undertaken. Veteran teachers know that no two school years are the same, just as no two classes, or even siblings are the same.

Students on the other hand grow and mature at different levels, where one day it is dolls or action figures, the next they’re taking showers everyday and are interested in the opposite sex.

As for parents, posts about “my little baby is all grown up” is echoed by all parents, whether pre-kindergarteners or college students. These major stops on the timeline of life are measured the parents for each of the different grade levels, Scudder, Jacob’s Well, Danforth and the high school. Each first day is registered in the minds of mom and dad.

One thing that is also expected by moms and dads is the annual first day traffic jam, getting off the summer schedule and used to driving anytime, to preparing for a long wait at a light, and getting frustrated. Yes, in the fall we do have our traffic jams.

Getting to the schools can be a major headache on the first day, but this year was different. It all ran smoothly with deputies and the Constable out in force, making sure to address problems quickly and to keep traffic moving.

“The only issue we had was the new light at Valley Springs Road. But we got there within minutes and solved the problem,” Pct. 3 Constable Ray Helm said. Deputy constable John Shellhorn controlling traffic at Ranch Road 12 and Green Acres reiterated Helm.

“I’m here to keep (Ranch Road) 12 flowing to the high school further down. It was way smoother than what I thought.”
