Fatal fire claims two lives

A fire in the Burnett Ranch subdivision took the lives of two people. The names of the deceased individuals have not yet been verified by a medical examiner as of the time of press and therefore have not been officially released.

The fire started on Hummingbird Lane overnight between April 7 and April 8. The first call reporting the fire was at 12:37 a.m.

“Nobody really knew where it was,” Wimberley Fire Chief Carroll Czichos said. “You could hear it and see the glow, but we had to find it.”

Czichos said there were reports of explosions, and the Hays County Fire Marshal’s office reported that the investigation found metal debris from what is believed to be a propane tank. Czichos also said that there were multiple explosions from car tires.

“The fire had probably been burning for 35 to 45 minutes before anyone even reported it,” Czichos said. “To hear the first explosions, it takes time for things to burn before exploding.”

At least two structures and two vehicles were burned. Two individuals were found, confirmed deceased and their bodies were sent to Travis County for identification.

Hays County Fire Marshal Nathan Mendenhall said that the investigation is still on going.
