Healthy Creek Initiative

Join Texas Parks and Wildlife on Thursday, May 9th, from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm at the Wimberley Community Center for the Healthy Creeks Initiative. Community members can learn about non-native, invasive plants that are encroaching on local creek banks as well as some resources available to landowners for controlling these plants effectively to improve creek and river health.

WAG Rescue Adoption Day

Come to King Feed on Saturday, May 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and meet some of our great pups available for adoption. If you are thinking about adding a furry family member, now is the time. We have wonderful dogs all looking for their forever homes! All available adult dogs have been fully vetted, are heartworm negative, are micro chipped and have been spayed or neutered. Puppies have been vetted, parvo tested, de-wormed and have had their shots current for their age and are micro chipped. 24th Annual Garden Tour

Once again, the Wimberley Garden Club invites you to explore the stories of our diverse, nature-loving community during its annual garden tour, Saturday, May 11, from 9 am to 3 pm. This year’s self-guided journey, themed “Nature’s Palette,” will take you from post-flood Blanco riverside recovery to Woodcreek diamond-in-the-rough creativity to scrappy outland gardening on the Hays/ Blanco border. Tickets are $20 and are available from now to May 6 at www.wimberleygardenclub.org (by credit card) and from May 6 to 11 at the Wimberley Visitor’s Center (cash or check only). Tour guides and admittance wristbands must be picked up at the Visitor’s Center on the day of the tour. The Wimberley Valley Art League is collaborating with the Garden Club for the third year, and artists will create and sell their beautiful works at each of the gardens – oils, acrylics, jewelry, mixed media, sculpture and more. All proceeds will benefit the Wimberley Garden Club’s annual donations to local restoration, beautification and community gardening projects.

Wimberley Lions Club Crawfish Boil

The Wimberley Lions Club will host a Crawfish Boil at Lions Market Days Field Pavillion on Saturday, May 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free admission/parking. Crawfish, shrimp, hot dogs, beer, wine and soft drinks will be sold. Live music: the Wimberley Way Band/ The Late Great Show. Proceeds fund the WLC community grants program and the J.C. Hyer Camp for youths.

Sunday Concert Series at Old Glory Ranch

Susan Gibson will play at Old Glory Ranch on May 12. Admission is $20 per person. A portion of the proceeds go to the Wimberley Valley Habitat For Humanity. Gates open at 1 p.m. Music runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. BYOB.

Searching for Rare Texas Plants

The Native Plant Society of Texas Hill Country Chapter will meet on Monday, May 13 for a program presented by Minnette Marr, plant conservationist at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Minnette has tales of adventure in Blanco collecting seeds of a rare morning glory on a rescue site...scouting the Hill Country for Texas barberry...documenting new discoveries in the iNaturalist Project Rare Plants of Texas. Minnette explains the scope and purpose of this Project, documenting populations of plants in Texas that are Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). Social time at 6:00 p.m., program at 6:30 p.m. at EmilyAnn Gardens, Burden Johnson Theater, 1101 FM 2325, Wimberley. Everyone welcome! Programs are free to the public.

Wimberley Democrats Annual Meeting

Join the Wimberley Democrats for their Annual Meeting at 6PM on May 15, at Kate’s Place Restaurant, 600 FM 2325. Event will kick off at 6pm with light appetizers and social time. We’ll elect our new officers, dust off the bylaws, distribute door prizes and unveil our exciting new logo! Wrap up by 8:00pm although you’ll be having so much fun you may stick around. Bring friends, order dinner and enjoy a glass of wine.

Alzheimer’s Texas Lunch N’ Learn

Alzheimer’s Texas is hosting an educational Lunch N’ Learn entitled ‘Validation Therapy,’ a positive approach to communicating with persons with Dementia. The class will be held on Friday, May 17th, 11:30 am - 1:00 pm at Chapel in the Hills, 14601 Ranch Road 12, Wimberley. Ray Wylie Hubbard at Susanna’s Kitchen

Don’t miss the ride with Ray Wylie Hubbard on Thursday, May 16 at Susanna’s Kitchen. Doors open by 7:00 p.m. Concert begins at 7:30 pm at Wimberley United Methodist Church (corner RR 12 & CR 1492). A crowd is anticipated for the concert so plan to get there early. Tickets are available only at the door. Adults $25, students under 18 $5.

Wimberley Armed Forces Day Open House

Wimberley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6441 will host an open house Saturday, May 18 VFW Hall, 401 Jacobs Well Road in Wimberley. The open house is from 11 until 2 and is free for all active and former members of the armed forces, their survivors and their families. Post 6441 and Auxiliary members will serve a free lunch, and there will be activities for the whole family as well as veterans assistance organizations to help attendees with veterans’ programs and issues. It is a day to honor Americans in uniform who serve their country in times of war and peace.

Type-In at the Wimberley Community Center

Are you a typewriter super fan, collector, or just curious and nostalgic for those simpler days? Then join us for an afternoon of all things typewriter at the Wimberley Community Center on May 18 at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a free, family friendly event where you can explore, learn and try out an assortment of typewriters—with experts! There will even be a blind typing contest! Don’t miss this unique event!

Blues & BBQ Cook Off on the Square

The Wimberley Merchants Association is hosting Blues and BBQ Cook Off on May 18 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the Wimberley Square. There will be live music throughout the day. BBQ plates will be $12, Pulled Pork $6. Wine, beer and water will be available.

Duck Race for Wimberley EMS

The annual Duce Race is the major fundraiser for the Wimberley EMS. The ducks are $5 a piece, available wherever the duck ambulance is or at the station, 512 847-2526, and can be sponsored right up until race time at 2 p.m. on Sunday May 19 at Waters Point.
