Eight new members appointed to KAPS Board of Trustees

Annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser on plate this week

Katherine Anne Porter School is making quick strides to try and rectify the financial issues threatening the school’s existence.

On February 10, the remaining three members of the Board of Trustees appointed eight new board members ranging from local community members to former students and principals.

Paul Michaels, Jordan Elliott Eddins, Julie Ann Gifford, Melissa Maxwell Ball, Jenny Bravo, Jazzlynn Derrick, Amy Majors, and Patrick Alan now join Cynthia Millonzi, Gary Harlow and Laura Ewing to form the new 11 member Board of Trustees.

The new board also created five committees including finance, governance, academic excellence, fundraising and communications.

The school also has donation options online for those wishing to help financially. The school’s website, kapschool.org, has a number of ways to donate including PayPal or mailing a check to Katherine Anne Porter School, PO Box 2053, Wimberley, Texas 78676.

While fundraisers for the school are being developed, there is an opportunity to get involved this week. The annual KAPS Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser has been revitalized after a number of years off. It will also feature a student art show. The event will raise money for the KAPS Parent Teacher Student Organization, which is separate from the funds being raised specifically for the school.

“The PTSO does things like teacher appreciation,” Alisha Berber, KAPS President of the PTSO, said. “We are funding prom this year and organizing that. We are doing school beautification projects and a backyard clean up. We provide food for teachers during STAAR testing. We are also doing an end of year dance and a senior class trip.”

There will be both togo and in person dining options for the spaghetti dinner.

“It is a pasta soiree. We are opening our school for people to view our murals and different art projects that our students have and enjoy a spaghetti dinner,” Berber said. “We are looking to make face with our community. We want them to see what we are doing, and how we are intending to thrive right now.”

The event will take place on Thursday, February 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the KAPS Cafeteria. It is $10 per plate with dine-in or to-go options as well as meat or vegetarian spaghetti options.
