Dovetails closing after 15 years

After 15 years in business, Wednesday is Dovetail’s final day. The shop, multiple-time winner of the Wimberley View’s ‘Best of’ for Clothing and Women’s Clothing, has sadly seen its last day. A product of the times, the pandemic was the culprit of the popular boutique.

“We opened in March 2006, almost to the day. It was fifteen years,” Sheri Fowlie, Dovetails owner, said. “Why (are we closing)? Covid is the main reason. PPP loans and having to pay everybody.”

Trying to keep employees on staff and another loan for the fall and winter season with the lockdown was just too much. “We had the best apparel in the nation. The suppliers are like family.” In October, the reality of the situation soon became apparent.

“I can’t take a chance and owe a large amount of money… I was a nurse, and I don’t know if we’re out of it. I’ll give it until December. My customers bought just to help me.”

She continued. “In a couple of years, I’ll be seventy. Do I want to start over at sixty-eight?”

Her family has a history of retail, her father owned a five and dime and her sister had a boutique in Maine. “My dad said, ‘if it gets to where it don’t work anymore, close the door and walk away.’”

Her time at Dovetails was not wasted though. As for the future, Sheri plans on staying in Wimberley, working with her husband Steve Di Pasquale and being a full-time grandma,. You’ll “see me walk around Wimberley with a baby carriage.”

“I’ll miss everybody and the store. I had the best customers.”
