Danforth JH Library named in honor of WISD Educator Beth Grayson

The Wimberley ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved to name the Danforth Junior High School library as the Elizabeth C. Grayson Library, in honor of longtime WISD educator Beth Grayson. Assistant Superintendent Dee Howard and Danforth Junior High Principal Greg Howard presented the idea to the board and also presented the honor to Grayson at the meeting.

Grayson worked as a teacher in Wimberley ISD for 30 years from 1985-2015. She was the first person in WISD to receive a 30-year service pin for her dedication to the district. She taught on the Danforth campus until May of 2015 when, after 37 years of teaching, she retired. She has since worked as a substitute teacher and certified tutor. She is the longest standing teacher serving WISD, currently serving as a substitute at Danforth. During the pandemic, Grayson willingly took on multiple classes to cover for teachers that were out sick or in quarantine.

During her time at Danforth, Grayson sponsored the National Junior Honor Society for 18 years, teaming with hundreds of students to do community service hours and projects for the school. She was Math Department Chair for 25 years, as well as Technology Department Chair for 15 years. She helped start the Wimberley ISD girl’s athletic program and was head volleyball and track coach at WHS, and assistant WHS basketball coach, during the four years she coached. She had seven years of coaching and teaching prior to joining the WISD family. She earned her teaching degree from Southwest Texas State University where she was on a track scholarship and putting herself through college.

Grayson has always had a heart for helping those in need, and has purchased countless school supplies for needy students, calculators for her math students when families were unable to provide them for their children. She has taken students to be fitted for prom or graduation clothes, so that they would have appropriate attire for different events. Many Language Arts teachers have been the recipient of her benevolence with books in their classrooms and the library over the course of many years. She has purchased sewing machines for the district, many different science project supplies and book fair books for students that did not have money to purchase books. There have been countless meals that she has provided for students who would struggle to get meals at schools or games.

Aside from teaching in WISD, Beth has compiled historical information about Wimberley and the surrounding communities in Hays County. She serves as the administrator & researcher for the Historic Photographs of San Marcos & Hays Co. Facebook page and has also put together the history of the Wimberley School System.
