COVID-19 Update

The first death of a person in Hays County under the age of 50 related to COVID-19 was reported on Monday. The man was in his 40s and a resident of Buda. There have now been 35 COVID-19 related deaths in Hays County as of Monday.

New cases in the Wimberley Valley have slowed over the last few weeks. There were four new local cases reported in the last week bringing to total number to 84, one of which is within the city limits of Woodcreek. Of those, 34 are considered active; however, the Hays County Local Health Department stated that there are likely more recoveries that have not yet been reported due to the amount of time it takes to confirm a recovery.

“There are still cases not yet in the recovered category because the health department can only make a certain number of follow-up calls each day, coupled with not being able to reach people to clear them,” a press release from the county said.

The County’s total of lab-confirmed cases is 5,050; of those, 2,787 are considered active. The number of individuals considered recovered is 2,228. The number of negative tests is 22,241.

Hays County has had 124 total hospitalizations and 20 people are currently hospitalized, down from 23 on Monday of last week. Some patients are in hospitals outside Hays County but are included in the numbers if they reside here. Likewise, an individual from another county who is in a local hospital would be accounted for in their county of residence.
