A Community Thanksgiving

Wednesday is setup day at the Community Center. But on Thanksgiving morn they arrive early, the cooks, that is. About 7 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning. Others arrive later, but everyone in place and ready to serve at 10:45 a.m. or so, smiles on everyone’s faces.

Yes it was the thirtieth time the community has held the dinner and the thirtieth time that the community got together to celebrate Thanksgiving that was all free. The turkey was there ready to eat, the stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole. You name it, it was there including pumpkin and pecan pie.

Something that Wimberleyites take for granted, providing not only nourishment for the body, but also providing something much more, fellowship and the feeling of being a member of a caring community.

Volunteers of all sorts, whether it was with a serving ladle in hand, pouring drinks, seating people, cleaning up the messes, restocking the pie pieces, or even washing and drying dishes, it just felt good inside.

Whether one was alone, or didn’t want to cook, or for that matter any reason, the atmosphere was one of being thankful, most of all, and feeling very blessed.
