Civic Club gives $32,000 in grants, scholarships

For Wimberley Community Civic Club members, their directive, “CONNECT. HAVE FUN. DO GOOD.” says it all. On May 20, recipients of the Civic Club’s 2021 season grants accepted their checks during a luncheon at the Messina Inn last week.

The WCCC gave $32,000 total with 60% in grants to 16 local non-profits, a total $19,200, and with 40% in scholarships to 10 HS seniors, a total $12, 800.

“This is why we do it,” says WCCC President Karen Thormalen. “All of the effort behind the Hill Country Home Tour, the Golf Tournament, The Spring Events, and everything else we do is for the pleasure of handing out grants to our community nonprofits. With civic club help, our neighbors can do what they do best to provide books, food, assistance, music, shelter, theatre, and other essential and emergency services to the Wimberley Valley. This year, grants were given to 19 non-profit organizations and scholarships were awarded to 10 well-deserving college bound seniors.
