    CHIP ROY

Chip Roy running for re-election

Congressman Chip Roy, representing Texas’ 21st Congressional District, launched his campaign for a third term.

Roy was originally elected to his position in the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2018. Since then, he has maintained a conservative position focused on issues such as border security, healthcare and fiscal responsibility. His committee assignments include the House Judiciary Committee and the House Veteran Affairs Committee.

Roy said he is running for re-election to “stop Joe Biden from ruining this country,” according to a campaign video released in mid November.

“A Republican majority isn’t enough,” he explained. “We need a majority who will fight for Americans’ agenda with the courage to speak the truth and will take on the ‘go along to get along’ establishment within our own party.”

“That doesn’t make me the most popular guy in Washington, but I didn’t run to play their game,” he continued. “I’m running to represent Texas; preserve our God given rights; secure the border; and leave our kids a country that is strong, proud and free.”

Popular or not, Roy has established an extensive background in government, following a brief career in investment banking. He served as first assistant attorney general of Texas under Ken Paxton, chief of staff to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and senior advisor to Texas Governor Rick Perry. Roy was a former federal prosecutor, having served as special assistant United States attorney in the Eastern District of Texas. He also served Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) as staff director of his leadership office and senior counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Roy received a B.S. in Commerce and an M.S. in Management Information Systems from the University of Virginia, as well as a J.D. from the University of Texas.

He resides in Hays County with his wife Carrah, and his two children Charlie (12) and Virginia (10).
