Capital Campaign to raise money for WSCAI

The Wimberley Senior Center Association, Inc. is well known in the area for helping out numerous other local nonprofits. The Senior Citizens Thrift Shoppe is one of their fundraisers and soon it will be revamped to make it easier on the customers and volunteers alike.

All through the month of March WSCAI will start a capital campaign to raise funds to get the shoppe into shape.

“The Thrift Shoppe’s needs are new floors, a new roof, an upgrade to the A/C, and the display areas,” Bob Eastlake of WSCAI said. “Our 2019 budget is $103,000 which is income from the Thrift Shoppe but also donations from the Wimberley Civic Club and private donations.“ The organization needs $193,000.

“Money aside, since the flood donations has been insufficient to keep it going. We need to improve the lighting, flooring, make it more welcoming, now its cramped and jumbled,” Eastlake said.

The capital campaign hopes to meet their challenges and to keep supporting local groups that serve senior citizens. Those organizations are:

• Circle of Friends helps caregivers and those in their charge with memory loss

• Supper Club Plus offers home cooked meals to senior citizens in the valley

• The Wimberley Senior Citizens Activities Center offers activities and events for those over 55 including dominoes, Mah Jong, Tai Chi, Bridge, Senior Crafters, Bridge and much more.

• Wimberley Village Library Chair Yoga

• Wimberley on Wheels offering rides to medical appointments, shopping, local trips and more

As one can see, these organizations and services depend heavily on WSCAI. They are hoping to clean out the building in the near future by having cut rate sales, then getting rid of a lot of leftover merchandise and storing the best merchandise in pods in order to clean out the building and to have room to complete all the projects.

“We’re hoping to empty as much as we can…so we can do work during the refurbishing,” Eastlake said. “Every dollar spent will be on keeping services open to Wimberley and the surrounding area.”

They are hoping a major commercial hardware store will be a sponsor with product donations and at cost products. Carpenters and other individuals are asked to volunteer their services for the project.
