Byrne resigns from Wimberley City Council

Wimberley City Councilmember Christine Byrne submitted her resignation on Monday, October 17.

“It is with regret and sadness that I submit my resignation to Council effective immediately,” Byrne said in a statement posted to her campaign Facebook page. “Circumstances necessitate that I devote my time to my husband and family. My experience on council has been rewarding beyond belief. I am proud of our accomplishments over the past 3 1/2 years and have complete confidence in the current council and mayor. It has been an honor to work with such dedicated public servants and to serve the citizens of Wimberley. I am grateful for the love and support of this community during this difficult time.”

Byrne was originally elected in May of 2019 and re-elected in 2021. Her current term ends in May of 2023.

The city council has three options to replace Byrne. The council can appoint a person to fill the remainder of the current term. This has been the option councils have typically taken in both the cities of Wimberley and Woodcreek when faced with the same decision in recent years. The council could also call an election to fill Byrne’s seat or leave the seat vacant until the next election, which will be held in May.
