Business & Non-profit of the Year

The Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce announced it’s yearly awards last week with Wimberley Café and Wimberley Valley Radio taking the top honors.

The Wimberley Café, which was recently purchased by Jay and Jennifer Bachman along with Christina Stoever, won the Business of the Year.

“What a tremendous honor,” Jay Bachman said. “Our intention has always been and will continue to be providing excellent food and excellent service in an excellent atmosphere. Our job is to be as good as we can in those three areas. That’s exactly what our guests deserve. Jen and I are thrilled that Shawn and Christina Stoever have come along for the ride, with their experience in restaurants and customer service. The Café staff is as good as it gets and is getting stronger every day. We would like to thank Mac and Robin McCullough for this great opportunity, and would like to acknowledge their significant contribution over the last 13 years. We all love this town and the people in it, and couldn’t be more excited to have been entrusted with a small piece of Wimberley’s future.”

KWVH - Wimberley Valley Radio was named Non-Profit of the Year.

“We are honored. It is an unexpected surprise,” John Brown, program director for Wimberley Valley Radio, said. “We believe we are a conduit for other non-profits and the businesses in the community to reach out and know what is going on with one another. This is a culmination of so many people in our community working for so many years to make the station what it is right now and what it will be in the future. It is our purpose to help people stay informed and entertained in our community, and this is just wonderful recognition of that.”

The awards were given out at the end of the annual State of the City meeting. Wimberley Mayor Susan Jaggers address gave a rundown of the city affairs that largely focused on the wastewater project. Beyond the wastewater discussion, which was very similar to the presentation the mayor gave at a town hall and public hearing the week prior, the mayor updated some city statistics. The population projection for Wimberley is currently 3,018 with 1,541 housing units. That is up from the 2010 census numbers of 2,626.

The mayor said that there are three road projects under some phase of development from the Texas Department of Public Transportation. A traffic light is expected to be installed at the intersection of Country Road 1492 and Ranch Road 12 in the coming months. They are still working on adding a turn lane at Ranch Road 12 and Farm to Market Road 3237 as well as at FM 3237 and Winters Mill Parkway.
