Burn ban continues in county

Hays County has reestablished a 90-day burn ban across the county.

The county’s previous ban expired, and last week the Hays County Commissioners Court voted to reestablish the burn ban upon the recommendation of Fire Marshall Scott Raven.

The county is still under a drought, and Raven said that the east side of Interstate 35 is getting most of the rainfall, while the north and west parts of the county are not.

“Our weather has improved somewhat,” he said. “We have a mixed county with the west and the north not getting as much rain.”

Though the burn ban has been reinstated, if conditions arise the County could lift the ban.

“As soon as we are able to take it off, I would like to take it off because it would be nice if everybody, before the next big flood we get, gets all that debris burned,” Pct. 2 Commissioner Mark Jones said.

According the Hays County, if the ban is lifted, it will be announced on the County’s Facebook, Nextdoor, and Twitter, as well as on the home page of the County’s website.
