Brizendine resigns from Woodcreek council Eskelund appointed to finish out term

Woodcreek City Councilmember Judy Brizendine resigned from her post last month. The council appointed former Mayor Eric Eskelund to fill the remaining months of her term.

“The main reason I resigned is it has become so contentious,” Brizendine said. “There is now an element of contentiousness, and we don’t seem to be able to get anything done without arguing. I didn’t sign on for that. I think effective government is a difference of opinions that can meet in the middle for the good of our citizens, and I don’t see that happening.”

Brizendine’s term expires in November of 2019. Eskelund was appointed to fill the rest of the term. He said he is up to speed on Woodcreek’s governmental activities and his extensive experience serving on the council would allow him to making the transition seamless.

“The committees Judy was on, under council responsibilities, were both infrastructure and roads,” Eskelund said. “I had major input, along with Frank Wood, in my last term when we did the Brookhollow Project. The roads committee that was previously established has done great work, and since I’ve had past experience on that I wanted to stay on that. That is one of the reasons I wanted to be on the council too.”

Eskelund has served in some capacity on the Woodcreek City Council for eight of the last 12 years. He served as a councilmember from 2007 to 2009, mayor from 2009 to 2013 and mayor again from 2015 to 2017. He said that he has not decided if he would run for a seat on the council in November when the term expires.
