Big Scoop Ice Cream Festival
The annual Big Scoop Ice Cream Festival was another huge success raising $20,000 for Camp Good Sam Wimberley.
“It all went very well,” Judy Holmes, one of the original organizers of the Big Scoop, said. “People came and stayed and really enjoyed themselves. It is mostly Wimberley people, so you the community really supported it. I love seeing all the children enjoy being together and being entertained. They are so integral to the whole event. It is for children and about children.”
An estimated 600 people attended the event. There were plenty of activities for children beyond unlimited ice cream such as facing painting, balloon animals and Lego sets. Ice cream eating contests were hosted throughout the afternoon. According to some onlookers, Constable Ray Helm, City Councilmember Rebecca Minnick and Bryan Burke were “beaten in a landslide” by Brewster Pizza owner and formed NFL offensive lineman Bruce Collie in the adult ice cream eating contest.
The event raised money for Camp Good Sam, which is a summer camp experience for students selected by Wimberley ISD to help prevent the “summer slide” so their learning can continue throughout the summer.
