The best Thanksgiving meal in town

It has been thirty-one years and it is still going strong, the Community Thanksgiving Dinner does not fail to live up to its name, where the whole community meets to eat or volunteer on Thanksgiving Day.

David Lewis puts it on every year and volunteers from all over the community cook, decorate, clean and serve all the Thanksgiving fixings. The turkey was there ready to eat, the cornbread stuffing, and cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and green bean casserole. You name it, it was served up and even included pumpkin pie and pecan crisp. If you could not make it or you are homebound, the meal would be delivered to you with just a pone call.

“It’s for people who can’t be with family, don’t have family or don’t like their family,” David Lewis the organizer said. It is absolutely true. There were no family squabbles taking place, no politics discussed, just everyone smiling and having a good time.

For those with family, it was time to enjoy their time together, for those coming alone; they weren’t alone a long time as room at a table was made for them.

If Norman Rockwell was still doing one of his classic portraits, the Thanksgiving at the Community Center would be a great illustration. Although it is and always has been free, donations are accepted all year long at the Ozona Bank in a separate David Lewis Thanksgiving account. Many thanks to David and all the volunteers that worked at the event to make everyone feel welcome and a part of the community.
