Band and Choir at Sights & Sounds

The Sights and Sounds of Christmas is a San Marcos holiday tradition, and for the first time in the 33-year history of the event, the Wimberley High School Band and WISD Choir will perform.

“We met with the organizers of Sights & Sounds of Christmas this summer to put into motion this debut for Wimberley ISD, and are very excited that the district’s hard-working students will showcase their exceptional musical talents during this beautiful tradition in San Marcos,” Deyanira Romo Rossell, Wimberley ISD Communications Officer, said.

The Sights and Sounds of Christmas takes place under the trees along the San Marcos River at San Marcos Plaza Park.

On December 14, the Wimberley High School Steel Band will perform from 6 p.m. to 6:25 p.m. The Texan Band Tubas will perform from 6:40 p.m. to 6:55 p.m., The WISD Choir will perform from 7 p.m. to 7:25 p.m. and the Steel Band will perform once again from 7:30 p.m. to 7:55 p.m.

Sights & Sounds originally took place at the Hays County Courthouse Square in Downtown San Marcos but has since expanded to Plaza Park, where it spans on both sides of the river. Alongside live entertainment, the festival features carnival rides, food booths, hand-crafted gifts, a petting zoo, ice skating and a spot for photos with Santa. The annual Jingle Bell Run — a staple of Sights & Sounds — will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14. To register for the 5K or Kids K, visit sights-nsounds.org/5K .

For the first time, Sights & Sounds of Christmas will implement a clear bag policy for those entering the festival.

The following bags will be allowed: clutch purses smaller than 5.5 inches-by-8.5 inches, clear bags smaller than 12 inches-by-6 inches-by-12 inches, and one-gallon plastic freezer bags. An exception will be made for medically necessary items and diaper bags after proper inspection at the entrances. All bags will be subject to inspection.

Prohibited bags include but are not limited to: backpacks, camera cases, mesh bags, purses, tinted plastic bags, oversized tote bags, binocular cases, and printed pattern bags. This policy is subject to change.

H-E-B and Amazon, two local sponsors, have clear bags available for purchase.

This is the last weekend of Sights and Sounds. Admission for kids 12 and under is free, $5 for adults. Credits for food, rides and games can be purchased through the Magic Money application.
