The Back Porch closes down, owners focus on Wimberley Cafe

Popular restaurant, The Back Porch located in Woodcreek along Cypress Creek, is closed, due to not only the weather, but also the new ownership of the Wimberley Café. The catering side of the business will continue.

Chef Jay and Jennifer Bachman planned to keep The Back Porch open, but when the recent hurricane in Florida happened, Jay once again went to help with the group Mercy Chefs who provide food and other services to storm victims. Jennifer stayed behind to try and run both restaurants, including one that they had just re-opened.

With the weather turning colder, the decision was made to devote all their efforts to the café.

“This is too great an opportunity,” Jay said. “The Square is primed for a revival, they are making big changes. Once the Square is done, you’ll see a big change for the good…we owe Mac and Robin (McCullough, the previous owners). They could’ve made a lot more money…but we have a commitment to the community, to move to the future by looking to the past.”

They have brought a few offerings with them from The Back Porch such as brussels sprouts, fried pickles and salsa. But more importantly, they have the entire staff of the Back Porch working at the café.

“It’s nice to focus on just one restaurant. We provide excellent food, service and atmosphere. It’s our overall goal and printed on our shirts to remind everyone and the staff that’s what we’re about.”

And Jennifer also made a promise about what is coming in the future. “We’ll have the best bathrooms once the sewer is done.”
