Art gallery celebrates anniversary

On Nov. 11, Pitzer’s Fine Arts Gallery will celebrate its 45th year.

One of many exceptional galleries in Wimberley, but Pitzer’s is highly respected for fine art and sculpture. The gallery is planning an all-day Texas- style anniversary celebration at its location in the heart of the Hill Country on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 13909 Ranch Road 12.

Pitzer’s story began in 1978 when founder and owner Rob Pitzer was selling pianos in Corpus Christie. As the story goes, sculptor Kent Ullberg came into his shop, set one of his smaller sculptures on the piano and challenged Rob to sell it, which he quickly did. Soon, he was selling more sculptures than pianos and turned the space into his first gallery. After a few successful years in Corpus, Pitzer’s Fine Arts was invited to open in Carmel, CA, where its reputation as a source for public and private collectors grew over the next decade.

Pitzer left Carmel in 2006 and moved the gallery to Wimberley. Over the years, many acclaimed painters from Texas and other states were added to his roster. Life-size sculptures graced the courtyard, attracting long time collectors, new collectors, and visitors from all over.

Today, Pitzer’s still represents sculptor Kent Ullberg , along with 40 other artists. Pitzer retired from active involvement in 2020, leaving oversight of the gallery to his sons, Tyson and Trey. Learn more at pitzersart. com.
