2023 Wimberley Weather

The ice storm of 2023 began on January 31 and lasted through February 2. The total precipitation was just under an inch, and, of that total, half was freezing rain and sleet.

Wimberley experienced two hail storms on May 13 and June 22. Peasized hail fell each time.

No rain fell at all in July, which was only the third time we had gone an entire month without rain. The drought that gripped Wimberley lasted 61 days from June 22 until August 22, effectively parching the area for two months.

Tropical storm Harold passed 250 miles to our south and was responsible for the one day of rain that we received in August. Otherwise, we would have experienced 83 consecutive days without rain, from June 22 through Sept. 13.

The drought was exacerbated by triple- digit temperatures in July, August and September. In July 2023, the third hottest July temperature ever recorded in Wimberley was 100.5 degrees. A 103.5 degree temperature reached in August made it the second hottest August since 1988. A temperature of 97.8 degrees recorded in September made September 2023 the second hottest September on record. Twenty eight of the 31 days of August were above 100 degrees, with the remaining three days reaching the high 90s.

Just three months — April, June and October — showed rainfall above the yearly average.

On Dec. 21 our high and low temperature varied a scant 2.4 degrees.
