Winter Landscapes by Community Chorus

Wimberley Community Chorus presents “Winter Landscapes” December 7,8 & 9 in Avey Hall at Chapel in the Hills Church, Wimberley. We may not have lots of snow (any), but for three nights in early December you might expect to see it after these concerts. This festive selection of traditional favorites, some with a twist, and contemporary classics will transport you to a snow-covered landscape where a cozy fire and hot chocolate beckons.

The almost 80 voice Chorus, now in its 38th year, will be directed this season by Perry Dean and accompanied by Jody Bagley Leifeste. The narrator this season is Chick Morgan.

Perry Dean’s teaching career commenced with 18 years at Smithson Valley H.S. where his choirs competed in festivals from Florida to Colorado, earning consistent accolades and Best in Class awards. He has also held H.S. positions at Palacios, Sweeny, Seguin and Cedar Creek, bringing home 30 UIL Choral Sweepstakes awards during his directing tenure. Perry is a frequent UIL Judge and Clinician across Texas and has served as Methodist Church Choir and Handbell director in Bulverde, Canyon Lake and Palacios, as well as directing the New Braunfels Community Chorale. He is currently director at St. James Catholic Church in Seguin.

Jody Bagley Leifeste is the Director of Traditional Music and Accompanist at the First United Methodist Church of San Marcos where she has been employed for 23 years. She is also celebrating her 17th season as the Director and Accompanist of the New Braunfels Community Chorale. She has directed the New Braunfels Music Study Club Advent Vespers’ Mass Choir for the past 8 years and has also served as a high school choral director, a choral clinician, and a vocal coach in previous years. Jody holds a Bachelor of Music Education (piano and voice) and a Master of Music Performance in Choral Conducting, both from Texas State University.

Chick Morgan has narrated the Chorus’ July 4th Concerts and is a cabaret performer and singer/songwriter now living in the Hill Country of Texas, blending the style and sophistication of the American Songbook with the sassy, original personal observations of the heartbeats of Texas

PLEASE NOTE There are 3 identical concerts, 3 days in a row on December 7,8 and 9. The December 7th, Friday night, 7 pm concert usually has the best opportunity for you and your family to sit together. The December 8th, Saturday night, 7 pm concert is busier and the December 9th, Sunday afternoon, 3 pm concert has, upon occasion, been standing room only. The Hays County Fire Marshall and Chapel in the Hills have set the audience capacity for the Chorus concerts at 275 persons. Each night the ushers will be handing out a free ticket for that date to each person entering and when the tickets are gone no one else can be admitted. There will not be any standing room since all areas other than aisle will be used for seating. Please come early if you want a good seat.
