Wings Over Wimberley Sept. 13-15

The first annual Wings Over Wimberley (WOW), a citywide cultural festival, will be held from September 13 through 15.

Hosted by the Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance (WVACA), the festival is celebrating the thousands of free-tailed Mexican bats living under Wimberley’s Cypress Creek Bridge in the center of town.

Enjoy tasty “Bat” treats from Jody Merritt, DR. Brisket, Angie’s Fried Pies, Overstreet Good Eats and Treats and more! Arts and informational vendors will include The Bat Association at Texas State, Austin Bat Refuge, Hays County Master Naturalist, The Wimberley Valley Dark Sky Committee, Dalton Designs Jewelry, Copper Kinetic artworks, Henna Chick, Artemis Designs Jewelry, Larry Morris Books, the Wimberley Village Library and more. You’ll find Bat Specials throughout Wimberley! Middleton Brewing has crafted a special bat brew, “Midnight Flyer”. We Are Blood, Blood Mobile will be ready for donors Saturday, 2-5pm. The festivities will take place creek-side at The Quarter Shops and next to Ozona Bank on Ranch Rd. 12. You’ll not want to miss this!

Visit the Bat Cave tent for your Bat T-shirts, and festival information.

Each evening at sundown, we’ll gather creek side to watch as the thousands of bats swarm out from under the Cypress Creek Bridge. It’s a sight not to be missed!

Texas Blues Guitar Legend Bobby Mack headlines Saturday night as part of the WOW celebration of the thousands of bats that call Wimberley home. Friday night kicks off with Marvin Bottera and Broken Glass. Saturday music continues with The Michael James Band, Jerry Burns, Roy Cunningham and Friends. Sunday you’ll hear the cool tunes of Kit Holmes and Nathan Brown.

According to WVACA Board Member and WOW Committee Chairperson, Pamela Rudd, “We’re happy to bring so many of our area’s wonderful artists, musicians, naturalists and food vendors together over this 3-day festival so that visitors can not only learn more about bats, but experience the breadth and depth of our cultural arts. Visit the WVACA website, www.wimberleyarts.organd Facebook for more info.”

Wings Over Wimberley promises to be another exciting, well-attended Wimberley event that WVACA anticipates will become an institution. Any questions can be directed to [email protected].
