Wings Over Wimberley festival is back

WVACA is seeking artist, craft, and specialty vendors

WOW is back for 2021! Following a very successful launch event in 2019 and a pandemic hiatus in 2020, the Wings Over Wimberly Festival is now being planned for October 1 and 2, 2021 on the creek-side grounds of Ozona Bank, 100 River Rd in Wimberley.

Even though their population was severely diminished due to the February freeze, the Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance has decided to move forward with the WOW festival to celebrate the important contribution these flying mammals make to our environment and culture.

Wings Over Wimberley or “WOW” as it is affectionately called, will be a vivacious 3-day event full of music, art, food, and fun celebrating the thousands of Mexican Free-tailed Bats who call Wimberley home. Friday, October 1st, 4 – 9 pm and Saturday, October 2nd, Noon – 9 pm, Wings Over Wimberley will attract visitors from near and far to see, learn about, and recognize the important role bats play in the Central Texas ecosystems.

As they appreciate and learn about our bats, visitors and locals alike will be able to experience the artisans, one-of-a-kind shops, talented musicians, craft cuisine and cocktails, and unique lodgings that make Wimberley’s high-vibing culture so special.

According to WVACA board secretary and WOW Festival Coordinator, Pamela Rudd, “We’re very grateful to Ozona Bank for the use of their property, where the entire festival will take place this year. Many of our area’s wonderful artists, musicians and food vendors will be on hand over this 2-day period so that visitors can not only learn more about bats but also experience great music and art. All the details can be found on the WVACA website, https://www.wimberleyarts.org/wings-over-wimberley. Vendors can email wingsoverwimberley@gmail for an application and information about the juried show.”

Wings Over Wimberley promises to be another exciting, well-attended Wimberley event that WVACA anticipates will become an institution. Be sure to put this event on your calendar now – there will be something for everyone, kids too (plus a special parking package – stay tuned for details)!
