Wimberley Film Festival awards
Last Saturday night saw a crowd of 140 enthusiastic art film lovers gathered at the Opera House at 7A Ranch for the Sixth Annual Wimberley Film Festival, many dressed-up for this special awards celebration. The event was jointly sponsored by the Carroll Wilson Family, who originated the event and have run it exclusively for the previous five years, Wimberley Valley Arts Cultural Alliance (WVACA), who added the event into its portfolio this year, and the Wimberley Village Library, who will receive the proceeds for their building expansion capital campaign.
After guests found seats and picked up their Prosecco and Popcorn, Hilda Carpenter, Chairman of WVACA and Carroll Wilson, Event Chair welcomed the audience. Lights were dimmed, the room quieted, and everyone settled in to watch the 26 short films selected from over 2000 juried entries. Films had to be no longer than 7 minutes in length and either be created by Texans, be about Texas or be shot in Texas. The original entries were narrowed down to the 200+ that were individually reviewed by the event committee. Finalists in each of 7 categories were decided by film industry pros, Carroll Wilson, Darcy Bryan-Wilson, Cinda Donavan and Keith Hall. A final category, the People’s Choice Award, was voted on by the audience at the end of the event.
Beautiful glass awards were created by Silo Glass exclusively for the Film Festival and presented to the recipients by Darcy Bryan-Wilson. Many film makers were present to receive their awards in person to a cheering crowd.
Due to the popularity of the festival, it’s anticipated that it will be held in a larger venue next year.
