These boots were made for Teachin’

Handling Pre-K children, aged three to six can be exhausting, but working with as a team can make it go a little easier. The staff at Scudder Primary’s Pre-K can relate to that. A tight knit group, one of the staff, Lori Scrogin, had a mother-inlaw Mariviv Scrogin, who is an artsy craftsy type of person. She also volunteered for a project.

“For Halloween my mother in law has a cute idea… think of boots, like those around Wimberley,” Lori said. Each classroom would have a different boot, the theme of the classroom. Each teacher had a boot made and for Halloween, each room’s boot was revealed.

“Marivive, she did it all, the design and the way she wanted it done, teacher Lisa Dube said. “Each boot for each teacher.”

“We’re putting them in the new classrooms in the new school. Scudder Pre-K to the new school,” Mercedes Kroenig said. “The program has grown a lot. For 3 year olds on, bilingual, monolingual, any way they come they are welcome here.”

All the teachers love their jobs with remarks such as “it’s a fun age,” “the growth and progress of the kids,” “an environment to love them,” “they drive me a lot to show up every morning. And every teacher’s mantra, ”They become mine!”

Of course when the children start at that young age, they are pretty scared, but after about two weeks of the same procedure, the kids settle down and some would rather stay at school.

The seven classroom teachers, six aides and one special education teacher enjoy their jobs and each other. “Scudder is unique, it’s very supportive of the pre-K and is hands on,” Kroenig said. And each classroom has the boots to prove it.
