St. Stephen’s Youth share food and firewood with those in need

This February, the Youth at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, collected and delivered more than two cords of firewood and enough food donations to nearly fill the Wimberley Crisis Bread Basket’s pantry. Led by Youth and Family Minister, Elisa Webster, and assistants Melissa ODell and Alexis Jones, the Youth worked diligently over several weeks to collect donations from parishioners during the Souper Bowl Sunday and Firewood Collection events held at St. Stephen’s Church in Wimberley.

In a recent thank you letter from a grateful John Myers, Treasurer of the Wimberley Crisis Bread Basket, he shared with the Youth how much impact their efforts had made.

“Your donations will help us provide weekly distribution of nutritious food to over 50 families from the Wimberley area,” John Myers relayed.

When asked why she thought her group of junior high and senior high students were so interested in community outreach when they could be enjoying the regular teenage activities, Webster looked surprised and stated, “This is just what these young adults choose to do willingly. It’s who they are. They are awesome!”

Next up for this group of industrious youth is providing childcare at the St. Stephen’s Episcopal School’s annual Extravaganza fundraiser, Mardi-Gras Masquerade, held on Friday, February 21, 2020.

If you have family members in grades 6th-high school, and they would like to be active with community outreach while enjoying fellowship and spiritual growth, know that they are welcome at St. Stephen’s Church. Youth group meets Sundays at 5:00 p.m. for planning, activities, and light dinner. Contact: Elisa Webster, [email protected].
