projectPROM

projectPROM, which took place last Saturday, March 7, at the Wimberley Community Center, was the first fundraiser done by the new Wimberley non-profit, projectART. It was a huge success. Besides raising a substantial amount with first event, it was a fabulous party that brought the community together in support of the arts.

Johnson Hall at the Wimberley Community Center was completely transformed into a dazzling prom wonderland. Guests walked the red carpet under glittering black and gold balloon sculptures and were charmed by Jenny Parrot’s live band followed by DJ Ken Strange, who got everyone on the dance floor. Some dressed in glamorous gowns and tuxedos, while others chose to represent their favorite decade in a fun way. Snacks, libations, a photo booth, silent auction, and a raffle for prom queen and king all added to Vasek and bartenders Milthe magical night. MC Abby ton Ricks and Javon Hawron delighted the crowd, as did the spectacular decor designed by the projectART team with the priceless assistance of He Creative. Everyone left the party planning to return next year.

Proceeds from project-PROM will go to the arts budgets and will provide extracurricular arts opportunities for students in Wimberley’s schools. Texas schools are in an era where our public schools are being asked to do more and more with less funding, which often has detrimental effects on the arts. With the community’s help, projectART can supplement supply budgets, purchase a kiln for Jacob’s Well Elementary, fund after school art classes, display student art throughout town and fund art teacher professional development opportunities.

Art plays a vital role in children’s development. The arts provide students with opportunities to explore their creativity and self expression, as well as use critical thinking skills and self motivation to excel in all areas of their learning.

projectART’s mission is to increase the quantity of art experiences, quality of art materials, and advocacy of youth art in Wimberley. They aim to engage the whole community in a fun ways to build support for the arts. The 2020 project-PROM delivered just that. To learn more, donate, or get involved go to:
