projectART continues helping young artists

Although Covid did cancel this years’ projectART Adult Prom, mark the date for next year’s on February 26, 2022. Last year’s event was the first big fundraiser for the organization.

“It will be at Old Glory Ranch. We’re planning now, because of COVID. As of now, all we can share is new student’s artwork on our Facebook page each day,” said Jennifer Ober, President of the group.

ProjectART’s mission is to support art education and provide creative opportunities for the youth of Wimberley. They do that by supporting art education, filling in gaps where school’s budgets can’t meet. For example, projectART brought student art to the WISD school boardroom by hanging art rails as well as $1,200 to the WHS Art Department and $1,100 in funds and supplies to the Danforth Art Department,

A kiln was purchased for Jacob’s Well Elementary, and $800 in supplies were brought to Blue Hole Primary. They have also kicked off projectMENTOR, an apprenticeship program that links professional artists to student artists.

“We have a huge number of artists, professional artists, that live in Wimberley… We’d like to connect a professional artist with an artist that will overlap with school,” Heather Carter, Treasurer said. “We have a huge plethora of artists. Why not use them?”

“We’re doing everything we can, both with WISD and KAPS. Let us enhance the art programs. There are young artists out there,” Jennifer Ober, president of the group said. ”We have a city wide mailer going out on what we’ve done and what we’d like to do.”

More will be forthcoming for art and the kids in the community, as projectART now has a grant writer that they are excited about and the opportunities that can be presented.
