Players present a spine-tingling weekend for kids and adults

The Wimberley Players leave no headstone unturned to engage with the ghostly and strange this Halloween weekend, Oct. 29 & 30 with two outdoor film events: Coco and the The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The third event, the Train Ride of Terror & Haunted Pioneer Town has been cancelled.

Coco, an uplifting film for kids, plays on the Wimberley Players big outdoor screen Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 pm. It tells the story of a boy named Miguel who dreams of becoming a famous guitar player, despite the misgivings of his closeknit family. When his ambitions cause him to run afoul of a curse, he must journey into the Land of the Dead to seek forgiveness from his ancestors. Colorful, beautifully animated, and culturally sensitive, Coco is an affecting, multilayered coming-of-age drama. Featuring “Remember Me,” an original song from Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (the husbandand-wife team behind the Frozen soundtrack), and other songs by a team of Mexican songwriters and consultants, Coco boasts an authentic soundtrack by award-winning composer Michael Giacchino. It also weaves the voices of Anthony Gonzalez as Miguel, and Edward James Olmos, Cheech Marin, Gabriel Iglesias, and Benjamin Bratt into a memorable experience. Suitable for the whole family, ticket holders should bring lawn chairs and trick-or-treat bags. Treats for children will be given while supplies last. Full concessions for kids including soft drinks, popcorn, and snacks are available as well as adult beverages for parents. Tickets are $10 for adults; children under five are $5.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show debuts on the big screen, Saturday, October 30, at 10:30 pm. Paired with dance instruction for the film’s iconic Time Warp dance, it is probably the oddest, most off-the-wall cult film ever made. The gender-bending, rock’n’roll, sci-fi, horror satire chronicles the adventures of Brad and Janet, played by Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon, after a flat tire leads them to a castle inhabited by weirdos from the planet Transylvania. Dr. Frank N. Furter, a transvestite scientist, played by Tim Curry, a rocking biker Eddie, played by Meatloaf, and a creepy butler, played by Richard O’Brien, are a few of the eccentrics they encounter un til they meet “Rocky.” Thirty minutes before the show, the Time Warp dance will be taught to ticket holders by Sandra Organ Soliz, principal ballerina of the Houston Ballet for 15 years and previous owner of the Sandra Organ Dance company. For adults, the movie is R rated. $8 participation kits that include a Shout Out script and all the props needed to join the fun are available for purchase at the theatre. (No outside props.) Popcorn, snacks, and adult beverages are available at the outdoor concession stand and costumes are encouraged. Ticketholders are asked to bring lawn chairs and to park in the medical center parking lot next to the theatre. Tickets are $13 and available for purchase at wimberleyplayers.org.

Due to a chilling trick of nature, the Train Ride of Terror & Haunted Pioneer Town event planned for Oct. 29-31 has been cancelled. Following the recent heavy rains, there was track washout under the newly renovated train. Repairs unfortunately cannot be completed in time for the event.

All tickets are available at wimberleyplayers.org or by calling 512 847-0575. The Wimberley Players is located at 450 Old Kyle Road, Wimberley, Texas 78676.
