Market Days roars into 2020

The first Wimberley Market Days of 2020 happens on Saturday, March 7 and promises all the festivity and fun of past years. These monthly events are the reason that the Wimberley Lions Club is able to fund important community causes like scholarships for local students and grants for area non-profit organizations. Also, tips from the many concession stands and the hauling service, and the Lions Field Wishing Well are donated to the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, where disable children from all over the state can enjoy the summer camp experience. For decades, the WMDs have offered shoppers and visitors in town a variety of hand-crafted wares and collectibles, good food including their famous barb-que, and talented musical acts. Headlining at the Pavilion Stage this market day is the ever-popular cover group, Little Beverley and the Shades.

The band members are (Little) Beverly Gillespie on keyboard, Randy Keir on lead guitar, Chris Sanders on bass guitar, and Tom Gillespie on acoustic guitar. Vocals are shared among the musicians. Traditionally, they play 50’s and early-6o’s rock-and-roll, like “Johnny B. Goode” and “At the Hop”. This year, they have added several Eagles songs, including “Take It Easy”. Guitarist Gillespie said, “We began playing together in 1990, and playing for seven years at Wimberley Market Days. We usually play three times a year.”

Referring to the crowd at Lions Field, he said, “The Market Days group is one of the most enthusiastic and appreciative groups that we play for. And, many of the listeners are singing along with us!” Some in that enthusiastic crowd break out dancing to those memorable “golden oldies.”

Additionally, there are two other stages on Lions Field where the good times roll. Monte Good plays at the Shady Grove Stage by Concession #2. And, Bob Slaughter plays at the Hill Top Stage by Concession #4. Music begins at 11:00 a.m. on all three stages.

The Wimberley Lions Club’s Market Days happens on the first Saturday of each month, March through December, rain or shine. March’s shopping hours are from 7:oo a.m. to 4:oo p.m. Find this festive marketplace at Lions Field, off FM 2325, about a mile from the Wimberley Square. Lions Club parking has expanded. Look for the feathery banners, signs, and Leos for directions. In addition to the expansion, there is parking located on the left side of FM 2325, past the car wash.
