Local author releases book on Tom Sealy

Local author Patrick Cox is releasing his new book, Tom Sealy – A Man of Action.

Tom Sealy of Midland, Texas (1909-1992) was an insightful, unselfish attorney and public servant who provided leadership and historic contributions in education, legal affairs, civil rights and civic participation. He played a pivotal role in convicting Nazi war criminals after World War II. Later, as Chairman of the Board of Regents at the University of Texas (UT), he opened the doors of the university in 1955 to African Americans, making UT the first southern public university to overturn segregation for college admissions.

As UT Regents Chair, Tom Sealy hired the young Darrell Royal who became the legendary Longhorn football coach and icon. From the 1940’s until his death in 1992, Sealy was instrumental in providing leadership for significant changes that delivered justice and advancement at UT and many public and private institutions. This unsung hero was a powerful force and defender of American values. Tom Sealy’s story is told in context with the many important changes that took place in the nation during his era.

Patrick Cox, Ph.D., co-founder of the Wimberley View, is an award-winning author and recognized historian, biographer, and conservationist whose publications cover U.S. and Southwestern twentieth century history. A sixth generation Texan who resides in Wimberley, Texas, he received his Ph.D. in history and his B.A. in history from the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his M.A. in History with Honors from Texas State University where he was designated as a Distinguished Alumni in 2014.
