KWB Clean up coming

This spring is a little different than years past. Dealing with the annual spring-cleaning, there’s also the added damage of the snowstorm and what was left in its wake. The city of Wimberley and Keep Wimberley Beautiful came up with an idea to help.

KWB’s annual Spring Cleanup became the Wimberley Valley Spring Clean Up with dumpsters provided for the entire valley to get that unwanted trash out of their yards and spruce up. This community-wide spring clean up happens March 27.

The city’s Public Works Department sprung into action. “John Provost has coordinated with Texas Disposal Systems. We had a great planning call with KWB and TDS this past Tuesday,” Wimberley Mayor Gina Fulkerson said.

The city organized the dumpsters so that all valley residents can also drop off additional items, not only yard waste, but also larger items such as furniture and most other household items. The dumpsters will be located at Lions Field. The items not acceptable include paint, tires, mattresses or refrigerators.

Keep Texas Beautiful and KWB will supply all necessary items for the roadside clean up. As in the previous years, supplies can be picked up at Lions Field on FM 2325 (opposite the entrance gates to the market) starting at 8 a.m.

According to KWB Treasurer Sarah Attwood, “Volunteers will be onsite 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. to give out vests, grabbers, bags, gloves etc…We are going to be right next to two dumpsters and a truck. The Lions have graciously allowed us to use their area.” She continued.

“The roadside clean up efforts will be for the roads around Wimberley. We are asking people to nominate sections that need help.”

Volunteers are asked to volunteer for one hour, of course working longer is always appreciated. Supplies including vests and grabbers can be returned to Lions Field.

“If they cannot bring back their collected trash then we will have KWB people driving around to collect. The whole event should be done by 1 p.m.,” Attwood said.
