Katherine Anne Porter School Graduating Class of 2019
The Owen Goodnight Middle School crowd was hushed as the lights dimmed and the class of 2019 made their way down the aisle. The blue robes and mortarboards were the only similar feature of the grads, noted for their individuality and creativity.
Ronnie Pinkerton, KAPS School Board President welcomed everyone.
Memorable words spoken to the graduates to remember were when Superintendent Cori Wilson quoted Winston Churchill. “In life, when it knocks you down. ‘Never give up. Never, never, give up.”
Salutatorian Mireya Prosapio spoke of how KAPS was a place of growth and discovery and Valedictorian Alexandra Dishman spoke of her love of classmates as family.
Principal Erin Flynn conferred the degrees and Texas Representative Erin Zweiner helped in passing out the diplomas. There were many tears shed by graduates’ moms and red misty eyes by proud dads. Flashbulbs and cameras were ubiquitous and would help record the end of one chapter of life and onto the next, the chapter of adulthood. Good luck grads.
