Hunter’s Night Out can’t miss

It was all there. The band playing as a warm-up to the event, the big white tent was there, this year with the sides open. There were video screens, microphones, barbecue, drinks, it was all there. Looking back on last year’s event in the midst of the pandemic seemed like a bad dream. But not tonight. Endless food and adult drinks, with all the proceeds going to charities that stay in the local community. That is what the Knights of Columbus in Wimberley do.

But the attendees, about 1,200 or so, is what makes Hunter’s Night Out so unique. People of all walks of life and visiting with people they haven’t seen in a couple years – or maybe twenty.

“Seeing all of Wimberley again is what this is all about,” local Kelly Western said. Renewing old friendships, laughing again with your buds, this is what was missing the past year.

Sure, winning a handgun or rifle is exciting. But the bucket drawings can also bring hope for a weapon, kayak, or a hand carved duck decoy depending on what bucket you place your tickets in.

The live auction featured puppies, longhorn steers, golfing weekends or sports packages with NBA Spurs and NFL Texans. Matching a card out of a 52 card deck can still be a gamble, but all the proceeds go to local nonprofits and scholarships. Here are this year’s recipients:

Wimberley Crisis Bread Basket, CCA Senior Nutrition Program - MOWRCA, The Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Amigos de Jesus Ministry, The Barnabas Connection, Fig Tree Outreach Program, Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church, Schoolyard Dogs, Wimberley Valley Habitat for Humanity, JPII Life Center, Ablaze Ministries, and the Marvin Joseph Scholarship Fund.

Presenting one unique event to the Wimberley Valley also helps the local nonprofits achieve their goals to provide for the area’s needs.
