Helmets and heels athletics fundraiser

Helmets and Heels gathered at the Wimberley Community Center last Sunday to help raise money for Wimberley Texan Athletics while also giving advice to moms about what to do with their sons who play football.

The event featured a dinner and drinks, as well as hosting a silent auction with items donated by local businesses, a raffle, and performances by the Wimberley cheerleaders and dance squad.

“Helmet and Heels is for the football program and the booster club,” Kathleen Unger said. “All the proceeds for this event go to the football program… The support from the mothers for an event like this and just for all their sons and the school is amazing.”

The event also saw Wimberley Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Doug Warren talk to the moms about what to expect this football season along with Coach Jeremy Mauk as well as Michael Buse who talked about the importance of athletes’ health.

Another important aspect of the event is that almost all the mothers of the players are meeting each other.

“It’s also an opportunity for all the moms to get together and get to know each other,” Nicole Parker said. “It helps us become more like a family.”

For some of the parents, having freshmen kids can be challenging but the event helps the moms know what to expect.

“It is super knowledgeable for all these freshman moms,” Parker said. “For them to come out, learn, get all the experience, know about all the traditions, and generally know what to prepare for. Traditions are a big thing for us.”
