Get ready for Herb Celebration Day

This year’s Herb Celebration Luncheon will be held on Friday October 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Wimberley Presbyterian Church located at 956 FM 2325 in Wimberley.

Herb Celebration Day is a charming event, which includes an herb shop, a plant sale, mustards, vinegars, rubs, soaps, and an array of wonderful herb ideas. The event culminates with an experienced speaker, a fabulous feast of herbal delights and a silent auction.

The Hill Country Unit of the American Herb Society, was started in 2007, and meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month at 9:30 at the Presbyterian Church. Our hot dry climate was naturally perfect for growing and cultivating herbs. Having established the ability to grow she then moved on to the traditional and experimental recipes in which to use the herbs. An outgrowth of that pursuit yielded the Herb Celebration Luncheon, in which we present our delectable and appetizing selections.

This year the herb society presented Linda Mc-Dowell with an award titled the Betty Crisp Rae award. Betty was instrumental in establishing the National Herb Garden in Washington D.C. Over the years Linda has designed and established our own herb garden at the Emily Ann Theater, with our newest addition being the development of a teaching green house.

Our speaker this year will be Matt Warnock Turner, Ph. D, author of “Remarkable Plants of Texas: Uncommon Accounts of Our Natives.” He is known for his books, publications both scientific and popular, tours at Lady Bird Johnson Wild flower Center and his appearances on PBS’s “Central Texas Gardener.” Locally he is known as a professor at the University of Texas, McCombs School of Business. Bring your copy of his book and he will be signing them.

Join us at our meetings, and discover our Herb Celebration Luncheon. Our growth has attracted more than 100 people from Austin, New Braunfels, Fredericksburg, and Marble Falls. Because of this increase Guest tickets will be $20.00 per person and must be reserved and confirmed, either on line at [email protected] or by calling 832-287 9366. Due to limited seating reservations must be received by October 19.
