Facebook group helps Wimberley teachers

Facebook now has a page devoted to Wimberley ISD teachers and their classroom needs. It’s called Support Wimberley Teachers, and Christy Degenhart was the mastermind of helping teachers, on a personal level.

Just started last Tuesday, August 4 and has grown rapidly. “It’s all about friends and not demographics,” Degenhart said. “Three employees in the gift department (at Ace Hardware) are teachers.”

In these perilous times, teachers, parents, and students are nervous about going back to school. “As more people get involved we can offer words of encouragement,” Degenhart said.

At last count, 42 WISD teachers have posted their wish lists for their classrooms.

“The stress, it’s a whole new ballgame (for teachers),” she said.

Helping the teachers in the community is one way to deal with the stress, both on the teachers and the parents.

As things change from day to day, reminding teachers of the importance of their job and offering kind words of encouragement and helping a Wimberley teacher with their classroom needs is one way to show your support.
